Concerts by Ayumi Hamasaki, Kumi Koda postponed or canceled

Music industry giant Avex Group announced this week that performances by some of its artists, including Ayumi Hamasaki and Kumi Koda will be postponed due the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The company says it is trying to find ways to provide some of the electricity required for live performances in order to reduce the strain on local resources. A spokesman also said that Avex is planning to use stage lighting more economically in an attempt to keep power consumption to a minimum.

In all, eight of Hamasaki’s performances in four venues have been postponed, including those at the Saitama Super Arena on April 9 and 10, as well as those at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya on April 16 and 17. Hamasaki’s Japan tour is now scheduled to begin on May 7 in Hiroshima. Replacement dates for the canceled concerts have not yet been decided.

The planned Japan tour by Koda has also been affected. The performances scheduled before April 21, which include 13 dates in nine locations will all be canceled. The tour will now start with the Nagano performances on April 23 and 24. Replacement dates have not yet been decided.

AAA’s tour start date will be postponed, with all performances scheduled before April 17 canceled. The tour will now begin with the Sapporo show on April 24. Organizers say that replacement dates will be announced soon
