Singer Shoko Nakagawa, 25, popularly known as “Shokotan,” appeared at the Japan premiere for Disney’s 50th animated feature, “Tangled”—titled “Tou no ue no Rapunzel” for Japan.
Nakagawa provides the voice for main character Rapunzel. “I feel just like the real thing,” she said, wearing a dress in the image of her character. “This is really my crowning achievement in life,” she proclaimed.
In the spirit of the film’s story, Shokotan was asked what her wish was in life. “To meet someone new,” she responded. “To fall in love, and become a stronger person.”
The film follows the familiar story of Rapunzel, trapped for the first 18 years of her life at the top of a tower, although the Disney cut takes liberties with the original tale. Also at the premiere were members of SKE48, the up-and-coming girl band from Nagoya, actress Maki Tamaru, fashion model Ayame Goriki, and others.
