Although KBS’ Invincible Youth ended back in December 2010, it is gaining popularity steadily in Japan. This is due to its old and new members, who have entered the Japanese market lately.
Asahi Newspaper did a report on July 19th about how well Invincible Youth DVDs sold since its release in April. The main reason being that many bought the DVD to see the Hallyu idols in their natural faces without makeup, offering an endearing wholesome image that many programs don’t show.
Of course, the most talked about episode is the episode where SNSD’s Sunny accompanied the cast to Biei, Hokkaido in October 2009. A representative of Biei’s tourism even mentioned, “It has become a famous tourist location for Koreans. I didn’t know that two days of filming would have this much of an impact.”
Invincible Youth may have stopped airing but with an increase in awareness to Korea and the Hallyu wave, the program’s increasing popularity in Japan isn’t stopping soon. With groups like SNSD, T-ara and KARA already gathering a huge following, more attention is given to Kpop and anything that is Kpop-related like Invincible Youth that stars Kpop idols as their main cast. The Hallyu wave doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon!
