Last July, Korean girl group representatives, Wonder Girls, went to Athens, Greece, to attend at the closing ceremony of the Special Olympics. Wonder Girls performed in front of 50,000 people from all over the world. After the closing ceremony, the Pyeongchang Special Olympic Organizing Committee offered Wonder Girls the position of PR envoy.
The Wonder Girls, who were impressed by the Special Olympics in Greece, gladly accepted the offer.
The Special Olympics is an international sports contest. It offers children and adults with intellectual disability the opportunities to compete in sports and to improve their acceptance in society. Kim Yoon Jin, Lee Loo Ma, Nam Kyung Joo, and the intellectually disabled Kim Jin Ho have been the PR envoy since 2004.
The 10th Special Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, Korea in 2013.
Wonder Girls said, “It is an honor to be the PR envoy to the Special Olympics. We are so grateful and we will do our best to introduce the 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics.”
Meanwhile, Wonder Girls are staying in America and preparing for their new album and the JYP Nation concert, which will be held in Tokyo next month.
