HONG KONG: Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung are no longer man and wife.
Cheung's manager confirmed that Cheung had on Sunday received legal documents finalising her divorce from Tse, reported Hong Kong media.
This marks the end of the couple's six-year marriage.
The pair quietly got married in the Philippines back in 2006, so quietly in fact that even their parents didn't know about it.
Tse and Cheung were considered one of Hong Kong's golden couples at the time, and their marriage appeared to be rock solid, especially after Cheung gave birth to their two sons Lucas (in 2007) and Quintus (in 2010).
But all that changed in 2011, when their spectacular marital meltdown captured the imagination of the Hong Kong public, culminating in a joint announcement that they were in the midst of divorce proceedings and would share custody of their children, later that year.
Neither party has stepped forward to elaborate on the "personality differences" which caused them to split up since the announcement.
However, Edison Chen, whose intimate meeting with Cheung on a plane in 2011 is widely rumoured to have triggered Tse and Cheung's marital breakdown, recently expressed during a television interview that he had nothing to do with it.
"I don't believe I can break up their (Cheung and Tse's) marriage, and don't feel I have the power to get these two people to split up," said Chen, adding that he feels sorry for Cheung and Tse.
