After releasing teasers for each of the members over the past couple days, YG has released 2NE1‘s music video for “Lonely,” a raw track (no autotune!) with a gorgeous acoustic guitar and string accompaniment.
Don’t be quick to classify – This isn’t your average breakup song.
“Lonely” is more of a confession than anything. It tells the story of a girl in a relationship with a great guy, but for some reason, she can’t shake off this feeling of emptiness. She’s confused, lost, and ultimately, lonely.
The lyrics are beautifully written – you can almost picture the girl’s hesitation and frustration as she finally comes to grips with her reality. “I don’t know, I don’t know why I’m like this.” CL, Minzy, Dara, and Bom are all portrayed as the same lonely girl wandering the streets, getting this confession off her chest. It’s a shame she can’t muster up the courage to say it to his face.
And the careful use of color, light, and mist throughout the music video highlights 2NE1′s soulful vocals and the emotions behind the lyrics.
It’s too bad that 2NE1 won’t be promoting “Lonely” onstage, but we’re not complaining because that just means another 2NE1 song is coming out soon!
Besides, the music video is gorgeous enough as it is.
