Taiwanese celebs come together for Japanese disaster relief

A show to drive donations for the Japan quake victims will be held this Friday

This coming Friday, celebrities from Taiwan will be coming together for a TV show Believe and Hope, Fight & Smile, where the proceeds will go to the victims of the Japanese quake.

More than 100 celebrities have already agreed to participate.

Although Taiwanese model Lin Chi-ling would not be in Taiwan then, she has promised to raise funds by calling into the show. The actress, who had previously acted in Japanese drama Moon Lovers, said she "hopes that there's something more I could do".

Singer Vivian Hsu was the first to make a donation. She donated a total of NT$1 million (approx. S$433,000). The singer had previously spent eight years in Japanese showbiz.

Veteran Hokkien singer Jody Chiang also encouraged fans through her website, to light lamps for the quake victims in Yunnan, China and Japan, and to donate to the Red Cross. The singer also promised to attend the event on Friday and had begun recording for the disaster relief song 'Believe' yesterday

Actress Barbie Hsu and younger sister Dee Hsu's mother said, "My two daughters and Wang Xiaofei have already donated a six-figure some to charity."

"Our aunt informed us about the relief efforts and what the people there needed. Barbie and I are very concerned for the people in these places (Yunnan and Japan). We would do our best to help the victims," Dee added.

F4, who had always enjoyed immense popularity in Japan, had also been approached by the organisers of the show to participate as well. As of Mar 15, only Ken Zhu had confirmed his attendance.

Taiwanese singers A-Mei and Elva Hsiao are currently working out time in their schedules, while local songbird Stefanie Sun would probably be raising funds by calling into the show.

Taiwanese president Mr Ma Ying-jeou had also responded via his office and expressed that he would be happy to be able to participate in the event too.

Believe and Hope, Fight & Smile is expected to air on all free-to-air channels in Taiwan.
