Jay Chou is crowned the top China celebrity in 2012

The Taiwanese singer beats Andy Lau to top the 2012 Forbes Top 100 China Celebrity list

Jay Chou has overtaken Andy Lau to top the 2012 Forbes Top 100 China Celebrity list.

The 2012 Forbes Top 100 China Celebrity list, which started to include Taiwanese and Hong Kong celebrities in 2010, takes into consideration both a celebrity's income and media exposure and charts them according to their business value and influence. On the list that was released in the Chinese edition of Forbes yesterday, Taiwanese superstar Jay topped the list, pushing last year's number one, Hong Kong superstar, Andy Lau to second place.

The multi-talented Jay, who had released an album and held many concerts over the past year, had also starred in a box-office hit, The Viral Factor in 2012. His endorsements and commercial performances were believed to be part of the reason why he was ranked above the father-to-be, who held more than 10 concerts in two months along with his participation in the highly acclaimed movie, A Simple Life.

Chinese actress, Fan Bing Bing came in third for the 2012 Forbes Top 100 China Celebrity. Other celebrities who made it to the list include Faye Wong, Li Na, Zhao Benshan, Jolin Tsai, Yao Ming, Jackie Chan and Lin Chi-ling.

Yang Mi, who was rumoured to be seeing Nicholas Tse a while ago, became the fastest rising celebrity on the list, climbing to the 14th place from the 92nd position last year.
